CO-DESIGN
We develop colours, patterns, and new ideas together with the weavers, combining their craft with new design perspectives
We wanted to create new reasons for people to use it.
HOW IT STARTED
RE:WOVEN began after Venice Naphas Bhasavanich met a group of older women weavers in Chanthaburi. Many had been weaving Pha Khao Ma together for decades, passing down their skills and knowledge through generations. But as the market changed, demand for their traditional Pha Khao Ma fabrics began to decline, especially among younger generations.
Seeing this, Venice began thinking about what a future for Pha Khao Ma could look like. She wanted to explore how traditional Thai textiles could be reimagined into something that would appeal to her generation while preserving the craftsmanship behind them.
That idea became the starting point of RE:WOVEN. Working closely with the community, Venice experimented with different colours, materials, and forms to create the first RE:WOVEN bag.
We develop colours, patterns, and new ideas together with the weavers, combining their craft with new design perspectives
We combine handwoven Pha Khao Ma with recycled polypropylene and turn leftover fabric into new pieces instead of letting it go to waste
We work toward confirmed orders before production, giving communities greater certainty when planning materials, work, and income
I’m Venice, the founder of RE:WOVEN. I was first drawn to Pha Khao Ma for its bold patterns and colours, but I also noticed it becoming less present among younger generations. I wanted to find a way to bring the fabric into modern life. As I spent more time with the women behind the craft, I came to appreciate not only their skills and stories, but also the strong sense of togetherness behind their work.
